Some of the more notable bills that are now in law are as follow:
The creation of a taskforce within the Office of Child Advocate to investigate complaints about the handling of child abuse and neglect cases.
Inclusion of information on child sex predators and sexting in sex education classes at schools.
Providing mental health care insurance coverage for eating disorders. (Effective January 2017)
Allowing sexual assault victims to file for protection orders from their attackers.
Regulations for safe use of streams and rivers. (Effective January 1, 2016)
Department of Revenue requirement to notify merchants of changes of interpretation of tax rules.
Providing care and counseling for both parties in child on child sexual abuse cases.
Restructuring of Temporary Aid to Needy Families from 60 months to 39 months.
Senior Savings Protection Act allows financial agents to put funds on 10-day hold if they suspect extortion of seniors or disabled depositors.
Dairy Revitalization Act allows dairymen to purchase insurance similar to crop insurance.
I ran across some information that I thought might be enlightening. On January 1 of this year our Medicare tax went from 1.45% to 2.35%, the Top Income Tax went from 35% to 39.6%, the Top Income payroll tax went from 37.4% to 52.2%, the Capitol Gains tax went from 15% to 28%, Dividend tax went from 15% to 39.6% and Estate Tax went from 0% to 55%. In addition, a 3.5% Real Estate transaction tax was added! All these taxes were passed in the Affordable Care Act aka Obamacare without a single Republican vote. The repercussions of the Estate Tax alone will be the almost assured demise of the family farm. A 55% tax on the value of several hundred acres will insure that the heirs have to sell the property to pay the taxes.
Jane and I went to the 60th. Wedding Anniversary party for George and Mary Carden on Saturday. There was a great crowd with lots of cake and goodies and we presented them with a House Resolution honoring their wonderful marriage.
