Before you cast your vote in August, use a common sense gauge and make your decision on that basis. We have been manipulated for far too long by the "spin" applied by the media and the political handlers. Gloom and doom is forecast far too often when hard work and good fiscal policy are all that's needed to solve our problems. The promises of "Freebies" are spun out by candidates of both parties and none of them have a plan to reduce our deficit spending. I know I've got a pretty good rant going, but someday soon there has to be a day of reckoning. We have to expect the leaders of our country to start solving the financial problems instead of constantly adding to them.
The Governor signed my Child Abuse bill last week. It provides extra time for investigations of child abuse, child sexual abuse, and children's deaths. There is also a provision to add the juvenile officers, judges, guardian ad litem's, and foster parent program to the responsibilities of the Joint Committee on Child Abuse and Neglect. We will continue to hold hearings and interviews in order to discover problems within the system and hopefully find solutions to make it better. Abuse and neglect of children continues to be a growing problem. We are planning interactive seminars in the near future to provide education on how to recognize abusive situations and deal with the trauma that children are going through. I am also planning more town hall type meetings. The best ideas for corrective legislation come from people that are already dealing with these problems and we welcome all suggestions.
